The youngest child and only son of Lucan and Daniellia Nicostratus, Herodion Nicostratus was born into a world of wealth and privilege many in the empire are scarcely able to fathom. Lucan expected his son would carry on the family legacy, that he might become the shining beacon of hope to continue the Nicostatus dynasty on Caerus Ekho. These aspirations faded as the planetary governor watched his son grow older. There was no doubt in Lucan’s mind that Herodion might make a canny political opponent. The young boy had potential if only he would apply himself. However, raised in the company of four sisters on a planet renowned for its self-indulgent pleasures, Herodion’s interests lay more with breaking hearts rather than forging trade agreements.

Nevertheless, Hero was sent to university on Marshall’s World to further pursue studies in interplanetary trade and commercial policy. Finding the topic dull at the best of times, the young nobleman excelled more out of spite for his fellow classmates than any real passion for the subject. Finally out from under the watchful eye of his father, the young Nicostratus instead took every opportunity for new diversions outside his studies. Fencing, painting, at one juncture he even picked up a pet from one of the underworld markets. However, nothing seemed to capture his attention overlong. Even “Squishy” was deemed more trouble than it was worth, and was released into the caverns under the university after just a few weeks…

When Hero approached Lucan with the request to join the crew of the Collateral Damage, Lucan was understandably surprised and somewhat taken aback. The governor himself had only just heard of Draque’s appointment a few days previous. Nevertheless, he seized on the opportunity. With the university on lockdown due to a greenskin infestation, how else was the boy to get an education? Surely if anyone could transform the foppish Herodion into something fit to rule, it would be the old war hero Kavik Draque.
